A former employee of Pence Wealth Management, an LPL-affiliated RIA, accused of fatally stabbing a co-worker and the co-worker's roommate has pleaded not guilty to two murder counts and denied all special circumstances that would make him eligible for the death penalty.

Ramy Hany Mounir Fahim of Irvine, California, was charged with murdering co-worker Griffin Cuomo, 23, and Cuomo's roommate, Jonathan Bahm, 23, at their Anaheim apartment in April 2022. Fahim was 26 at the time.

Fahim in early September pleaded not guilty to two murder counts and denied all six alleged “enhancements” in the case (#22NF1025), including special circumstances of lying in wait for a murder victim, murder to avoid arrest and committing more than one murder, according to case details on the California Superior Court for Orange County website.

Those special circumstances could lead to the death penalty if the defendant is found guilty. Fahim also was charged with using a knife to commit the crimes.

The court last week scheduled a pretrial hearing for Fahim for Feb. 28. He is being held without bail and remains in custody, a spokesperson for the Orange County district attorney’s office told ThinkAdvisor by email on Friday.

Fahim’s LinkedIn profile describes him as starting a job as a research associate for Pence Wealth Management in November 2021.

The victims’ parents filed civil lawsuits against Pence Wealth and others. Cuomo’s mother, Wendy Cuomo, in an October 2022 wrongful death suit, contended the firm had been "repeatedly warned that Fahim had a tendency toward violence, but they overlooked it," allegedly due to co-founder Laila Pence's relationship with Fahim's mother, Nabila Makram, who was Egyptian Minister of Immigration and Expatriate Affairs when the two men were slain.

Fahim’s lawyer didn’t return a message left through his firm’s website last week.
